NOTE: For these instructions to work you MUST be on one of the University wired networks or UCONN-SECURE wireless network. Other networks and UCONN-GUEST will require you to be connected to the VPN.
- Click on Finder > Preferences > check the “Connected Servers” checkbox
- Close the Finder Preferences window
- On your keyboard hold down the “command” key and then press the “k” key
- Folder path: smb://files.uconn.edu/home/NetID (insert your NetID here)
- Enter your folder path in the server address field and click connect
- Connect as a registered User and enter your NetID and NetID password
- If you do not want to enter your Password every time you access the P: drive be sure to check the box called “Remember this password in my keychain
- The “NetID” window will pop up, close it for now
- A drive called “NetID” will appear on your desktop
- Hold down the control key and then click on the “NetID” drive
- Click on Make Alias
- An icon call “NetID alias” will appear on your desktop
- Hold down the control key and click on the “NetID alias”
- Click on Get Info
- Click on Name & Extension
- Change the name from “NetID alias” to “P”
- Hold down the control key and click on the “NetID” drive
- Click on eject “NetID”
- To access your P: drive from here on, click on the “P” icon
